It doesn't get a lot more special than this. The Ford Kelly Python emerged from a collaboration between Ford and designer, Alvin Kelly aiming to create a body style to compete with the Corvette. The design drew inspiration from molds of Eugene Bordinat's Cobra prototype, which was intended to replace the AC Cobra.
Built on a reinforced Fox Body Mustang frame with a shortened wheelbase, the Python features a distinctive fiberglass body with modern, angular styling. It is equipped with a standard Mustang drivetrain, including a 5.0L V8 engine, suspension designed by Lotus, and it sports a standard Fox Body interior. It was intended to be offered through Ford dealers as a turnkey car. Unfortunately, by the time the Python was ready for production, Ford made significant changes to the Mustang and the project was scrapped.
12 units were built, and 7 have been identified to remain. This Python, affectionately named James, is believed to be Prototype #1.
Imagine owning a 1 of 7 car that you can get parts for at ANY auto parts store.
